type='text'>Grammar Presentations</title><content type='html'>Chicas la segunda semana del semestre van a dar presentaciones de la gramática. Abajo está el documento que recibirán en clase el 19. Si quieren empezar ahora pueden. Los números a lado de tu nombre indican cual lección de studyspanish.com es relacionada con tu gramática. Mándenme un email si tienen dudas.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Presentaciones de la gramática AP&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;El lunes el 24 de agosto empezamos con las presentaciones gramaticales. Vamos a repasar los tensos principales que vimos el año pasado. El libro de texto cubre los tensos pero este año no vamos a enfocarnos en la gramática. Por el año haremos practica con los conceptos gramaticales pero la mayoría  va a ser afuera de la clase. Sólo repasaremos la gramática cuando tengan problemas o cuando sea un concepto avanzado o nuevo.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pueden usar el Internet o el libro para preparar sus presentaciones. Necesitan distribuir un documento con una explicación de la gramática y con unas actividades o unos ejercicios para practicar la gramática.  En vez de (instead of) crear su propio Power Point, usen la materias de otros sitios de web, como los de abajo. Yo les recomiendo studyspanish.com para que nos acostumbremos (acostumbrarse- get used to) el sitio de web. Lo ecuentro muy útil para explicar el español. Hace frío y llovía todo el día ayer lo que no es muy común en Santiago.  Chile es como lo recuerdo. No ha cambiado mucho. Mi vida acá es como siempre ha sido. Esta semana voy a poder ver a mis amigos, muchos que no veo desde hace más que 4 años.&lt;br /&gt;Voy a estar aquí hasta el 30 cuando mi viaje al Brasil empiece. Me quedaré en Brasil 15 días. Durante los quince días voy a estar con las hermanas de la escuela de Notre Dame. Visitaré las escuelas en Rio de Janiero e iré a la playa Ipanema, la que queda muy cerca de la escuela. En las noches voy a poder ver el trabajo que hacen las hermanas. Tengo planes para ir a visitar a un amigo que ahora trabaja un poco más al sur, en una ciudad que se llama Concepción. Visité a Concepción una vez. Pero no hice mucho porque solo pasé una noche allí. Vivimos allí por tres años.&lt;br /&gt;6. to indicate reason = por&lt;br /&gt;* I will not marry for money but for love. Recibí una carta de mis amigos.&lt;br /&gt;2. range (as in from...to) = desde...hasta&lt;br /&gt;* I'll be in my office from 9:00 to 11:30. Estaré en mi oficina desde las nueve hasta las once y media.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;GUSTAR VERBS&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some verbs in Spanish have special constructions because their real meaning in Spanish is different from the English meaning we often want to express. These verbs are gustar, encantar, fascinar, interesar, importar, molestar, faltar, quedar, and parecer.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Because the Spanish meanings of these verbs differ from what we are used to saying in English, we have to base our Spanish sentence on the Spanish meaning of the verb so that it can express our English idea. We do this by expressing the English subject as the indirect object of the Spanish verb.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Gustar means to please. In English we say "to like".&lt;br /&gt;* I like horses. Me gustan los caballos.&lt;br /&gt;2. Encantar means to enchant. In English we say "to love (something)".&lt;br /&gt;* We love chocolate. Nos encanta el chocolate.&lt;br /&gt;3. Fascinar means to fascinate. In English we sometimes say "to be fascinated by".&lt;br /&gt;* I am fascinated by Russian novels. Me fascinan las novelas rusas.&lt;br /&gt;4. Interesar means to interest. In English we sometimes say "to be interested in".&lt;br /&gt;* She is interested in computers. Le interesan las computadoras.&lt;br /&gt;5. Importar means to be important or to matter. In English we sometimes say "to care".&lt;br /&gt;* I don't care about clothes. No me importa la ropa.&lt;br /&gt;6. Molestar means to bother or to annoy. In English we sometimes say "to mind".&lt;br /&gt;* Don't you mind the noise? ¿No te molesta el ruido?&lt;br /&gt;7. Faltar means to be lacking or missing. In English we sometimes say "to need".&lt;br /&gt;* I need $5 to buy the ticket. Me faltan cinco dólares para comprar el boleto.&lt;br /&gt;8. Quedar means to remain. In English we sometimes say "to have left".&lt;br /&gt;* They only have $3 left. Sólo les quedan tres dólares.&lt;br /&gt;9. Parecer means to seem. Are you going to be a lawyer?&lt;br /&gt;Llegó a ser muy popular.                 He became very popular.&lt;br /&gt;Era analfabeto pero llegó a ser Presidente de la República.&lt;br /&gt;Era muy inteligente y llegó a ser el primer premio nobel de su país.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;HACERSE tiene un sentido de cambio más inmediato, pero tambien se usa con profesiones u oficios.&lt;br /&gt;Me hice médico.                     I became a doctor.&lt;br /&gt;¿Es posible hacerse rico en los EEUU?         Is it possible to get rich in the US?&lt;br /&gt;Se hizo rico de la noche a la mañana.&lt;br /&gt;Se hizo famoso luego de la película.&lt;br /&gt;Luis se hizo electricista.&lt;br /&gt;   &lt;br /&gt;CONVERTIRSE EN Y TRANSFORMARSE EN se usa como equivalentes de to turn into. They are followed by a noun and usually indicate a change to a thing rather than a person.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hizo frio y el agua se convirtió en hielo.           &lt;br /&gt;La condición se convirtió en una emergencia médica.         The condition turned into a medical emergency.&lt;br /&gt;La leche puede tranformarse en queso.
